Priority for Class 4 Training for Full-Time Truck Drivers in Singapore

Priority for Class 4 Training for Full-Time Truck Drivers in Singapore

Those who wish to enroll in training to drive heavy vehicles (Class 4) such as trucks in Singapore will now have the opportunity to do so with shorter waiting times.

Who Gets Priority?
Starting tomorrow (September 15), Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and work permit holders who work as full-time drivers will be given priority for Class 4 training.

Why This Change?
There is high demand for Class 4 training. Currently, the average waiting time to enroll in this class is about 13 months. As of July 2025, around 3,900 people were on the waiting list. This new arrangement has been introduced by the Traffic Police to help reduce the long waiting period.

What is Class 4?
Class 4 refers to heavy vehicles, such as trucks, that weigh over 2,500 kg when unladen. Special training and a license are required to drive them.

Previous Rules
Before May 2023, only Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and work permit holders were allowed to enroll in Class 4 courses. After May 2023, this restriction was removed, allowing anyone with a valid Class 3 or Class 3C driving license to register.

This new priority scheme is expected to provide faster training opportunities for those working in the logistics and transportation sector, helping to address the shortage of drivers in the country.
